Emma Buckingham / Saturday, 22 August 2020 Down To The Wire in Open Horse Series It was down to the wire in the Auckland Insulation Open Horse Series Open Horse Series Our Auckland Insulation Open Horse Series came down to the wire with a count back being required to find the winner. Sophia Maud (14) from Okura was our eventual winner with runner up being Victoria Mitchell and Fifty Shades HS. Sophia rides her 15.3hh skewbald mare Soho (known as Willow at home) who is by Brewed Too Hot out of Rosabella. Sophia has been riding since she was five and attends Wainoni Park Pony Club. She has quickly forged a partnership with the experienced Willow, who she has only owned for two months, so a very impressive win. Sophia describes Willow as having an amazing technique and being a very straight forward honest ride. Sophia has also competed her first hack ‘Boss’ in the winter series, it is her second season competing in the Show Jumping ring. Sophia is aiming to compete around the North Island this season in the Junior Rider Series and has found the Auckland Insulation winter series to be great experience. “Competing against a large group of talented riders really challenged me. It was great for me to get my horses out competing in the winter so I can get ready for the season.” Sophia would like to thank Auckland Insulation and Show Jumping Waitemata for putting on the event as well as her coach Daniel Blundell and her family and friends for their support.
