We are excited to bring you both the Rookie Rider and Pony Mini Prix Trainers Championships this weekend thanks to very generous donations from some awesome trainers.

We are very greatful to have the support from these top trainers who will be helping the next genaeration of riders hone their skills. Each trainer has donated not one but two lessons to the winner! 

 

First up on Saturday Class 6 the Pony Mini Prix Trainers Championship

First prize is the first pick of the training services, second prize second pick, third prize third pick, down to 8th place.  

 

 

 

On Sunday we have the Rookie Riders  Trainers Championship

Clarke Johnstone

Clarke Johnstone is a current Eventing High Performance Squad member. Clarke's career highlights include:

·         6th Individually and team 4th at the Olympics Games, Rio 2016

·         5th Badminton CCI4* 2016

·         1st Adelaide CCI4* 2017

·         Bronze Team Medal World Equestrian Games, Kentucky 2010

·         Team Gold Medal World Equestrian Festival (Aachen) 2018

·         Winner FEI World Cup Eventing Series 2011

.        3rd Woodhill SJ World Cup Series final 2019

Clarke is the only Olympic event rider who did most of his preparation in New Zealand for the Rio Olympics. In doing so he has inspired the next generation of riders that it is possible to base from NZ.

Whilst Clarke is best known for his successes eventing, he is also an exceptional show jumper. He is a very accurate rider and has had many successes on the circuit this season competing up to World Cup level.

Lessons are to be at Clarke’s base in Matangi, Hamilton. Time to be arranged by the winner and Clarke.

Philipp Oxenius

Philipp began his career in Germany where he rode professionally and competed for Germany in 3 Day Eventing 1978-82. He trained at Wahrendorf and is a Bereiter FM (Professional Rider). When he settled in New Zealand he competed successfully in Grand Prix dressage. 

An ESNZ Elite coach, Philipp returns to Europe every winter to work with Jean Bemelmans. He has been a National coach for France, Spain and Germany. Philipp has been an assessor of ESNZ coaches since 1994. He has trained many of NZ’s top dressage riders to produce their own horses through to Grand Prix. Philipp also trains many of our top eventers and more recently is making a name for himself teaching many of the country’s top show jumpers including Amanda & Vicki Wilson. Philipp has an extensive knowledge and trains using the classical principles. He travels the country teaching everywhere from Kerikeri to Invercargill.

Lessons to be held at one of Philipp’s many clinic locations before the end of 2019.

Dani Maurer

Dani Maurer has produced horses to Grand Prix and World Cup level. Previous National Young Rider Champion, National 1.30m - 1.40m Champion and National Grand Prix Champion. Grand Prix wins and placings on multiple horses. Currently training students all over the country at different competition levels and disciplines. 

Lessons are to be held at Dani’s arena in Kaukapakapa – Auckland.

Jill Ullrich

Jill travels throughout New Zealand teaching a simple method to produce technically correct riders and easy to ride horses. She began teaching in New Zealand in 1992 after owning a successful hunter jumper barn in California. Jill’s goal as an instructor is to give you and your horse the skills to successfully compete at any level. Jill has competitive riders here in New Zealand ranging from Category A Show Hunter ponies through to World Cup horses.

Lessons can be used at one of Jill’s Clinics within the next 12 months.

Lizzie Green

Lizzie is a long standing member of the New Zealand High Performance Eventing Squads, having previously represented New Zealand at Young Rider level and winning Young Rider titles in NZ and Australia. Winner of multiple National titles and CCI 3/3* events. Lizzie has also represented NZ on several Nations Cups teams in Europe including the winning team at Houghton Hall and individually winning Boekelo CCI 3* in Holland and Blair Castle in Scotland.

Lizzie Green, has recently returned from 7 years based internationally to produce some of her young horses here in New Zealand. Lizzie is a busy coach of NZ Eventing squads as well as hosting her popular clinics around the country!

Lessons are to be used by end of 2019, can be at Lizzie’s base or at one of her various clinic venues.

Kate Hewlet

Kate has had horses in her blood since she was born, having been given her first pony when she was two years old by her grandmother. As a child she represented Kerikeri, Bay of Islands and Northland in Show Jumping and Eventing Teams events and in 1993 travelled to the USA where she taught horsemanship in Maine. On returning to NZ, Kate continued her eventing career, with many successes, at all levels. Her eventing success acclaimed her national recognition and lead to many owners requesting her to train and compete their horses to top level. Abroad Jos Bayly’s ‘World Wide Wonder’ stallion Internet, Kate was 15th at Badminton, 7th are Burghley and 5th are the British Open Championships winning the trophy for best placed young horse. Kate now show jumps and with her beautiful stallion Capatino GNZ, she has reached her goal of jumping Grand Prix.

Our clinics cover anything you’d like to learn from float loading, to trekking peacefully, to Classical Dressage, from jumping 50cm to jumping Grand Prix!!! The tools that we give you will set you up for life, we will give you the confidence to continue with and develop a better understanding with your horse. We have patterns that will be the key to continuing our methods at home while no one is there to help you. Patterns that will help your horse adjust and accept scary or stressful situations. The proof is in the pudding with so many ponies and kids jumping to Grand Prix, happy adults jumping a meter, we love our method and we attract such a great supportive group of people.

Donna Edwards Smith

Donna is an international event rider and trainer who rode for New Zealand at the 2006 World Equestrian Games. One of the most sportsmanlike and professional riders on the local circuit, Donna has produced many, many horses to Advanced level, such as Balmoral Sensation, DSE Tangalooma, DSE Mr Hokey Pokey, DSE Cluny, Henton Executive, Just Chocolate to name a few!  Donna has also competed to world cup level in show jumping.

 

Jacque McKinley 

Jacque is a national coach for NZPCA and the Equestrian coach for St.Cuthberts College. She coaches full time. Jacque is based in east Auckland and teaches right throughout New Zealand.  Jackie has started may riders in their journey to becoming top show jumpers including Olivia Dalton.

Lessons are to be used within 12 months.

 

Victoria Rattray

Tors Rattray is an experienced professional Show-jumper, Having trained, produced  and competed hundreds of horses she has a natural feel and insight into how to get the best out of horse and rider partnerships . Already building a large following as a coach, her years of practical hands on experience, working with international Trainers and competition success to Grand Prix Level enable Tors to give her pupils valuable tools and information to achieve success in the ring.

Lessons are to at Tors’s property in Mangatangi (South Auckland) and are to be used within 6 months.

 

 

Coaches for the Top Pony Stakes:

Sam Peters

Sam, who is based in Cambridge, has competed up to World Cup level, and specializes in producing quality young horses up through the grades.  She is a respected coach and role model for the next generation of the sport.

From a young age Sam was competitive, winning the Junior Rider Series at the age of 15, placing 3rd in the Pony Grand Prix Series, winning many Young Riders, Junior Riders and Pony Grand Prix classes. Sam continued to progress up the grades despite hitting a few speed bumps on the way. She has now developed a strong team of horses for the future which she has high ambitions for!

Lessons are to be at Sam’s property in Cambridge. She is happy for the winner to use both or get a friend to join you. Lessons expire by the end of 2019.

 

Amanda Wilson

Amanda Wilson is a top Grand Prix rider based in Whangarei, Northland.  As well as running a large team of horses and helping run their very popular Showtym Camps, Amanda is also very passionate about coaching and runs her own business, ‘The Formula,’ an online subscription based site that shares her knowledge she has attained over the years. She also travels the country every year holding clinics and teaching hundreds of riders about the importance of correct rider position, understanding how to get the best jump out of your horse, finding the perfect distance, confidence building and more.

 

Janet Klijn

“Having the basics right, so you can ride so that it looks easy to those watching, that is the beauty of riding.”

Jannette show jumped in Europe and represented the Netherlands several times (Denmark, Belgium &UK). She also competed in eventing at the highest level in the Netherlands.

Jannette’s method of coaching is progressive and easy to follow, giving quick results when training your horse or pony. She respects how the horse learns and gives the rider tools to improve the communication with the horse. Jannette has coached since she was 18yrs old. After moving to New Zealand, she set up her own equestrian centre and is now coaching riders and training horses full time. He vault of knowledge, especially in the show jumping ring, has helped many riders and teams reach their goals in the Netherlands and NZ. She recently coached Whangarei PC and Northland PC winning teams at the North Island Show Jumping Championships and Horse of the Year 2019.

The lessons will be valid till 31st October 2019

The coaching location will take place at either Eurostables in Maungakaramea or another venue or location agreed on at time of booking.  The rider must provide their own transport to coaching location, cover associated ground fees (if any) and expenses and any damages to jumps or property incurred by the horse, rider or vehicle.

Sandra Standford Soons

SAS Sport Horses provides an integrated training schedule combining hands-on experience with knowledge-based teaching that has been developed over many years of training and competition.

Sandra has produced horses to and competed at Grand Prix Show Jumping, PSG Dressage and Horse Trials along with being involved in all NZPCA teams events.

Guidance is given across the board to all ages and levels with the expert and individualised care to help you or your child succeed in their chosen discipline.

Tim Featherstone

Tims life started around horses, from starting youngsters to show jumpers and eventers.  Teaching Pony Club kids to Juniors, Young Riders and Pony Grand Prix riders.  At one-point Tim had six pony and rider combinations competing at Grand Prix Level.  Tim has been competing successfully for the last two seasons around pro-am level, recently stepping up to 1.40m at Horse of the year with Kiwi Superkee. 

Tim does clinics around the country teaching his unique approach to training horses and riders using a classical/academic horsemanship method, riders gain confidence and knowledge to become empowered to grow into effective horse people.

Tim is based in Northland but regularly travels around the country.

 

Des Lowe

Jumping trainer Des Lowe has been teaching riders in the Waitemata-Rodney region for 30 years and is one of the areas most successful coaches.
He has produced many successful jumpers to Grand Prix level along with Show Hunter of the year winners. 
He caters for all levels and abilities and has started many of New Zealand's top show jumpers.

He is available at Te Awa Equestrian on a regular basis.

 

David Collett

David Collett is a full-time show jumper and instructor based in Hellensville. David started his career riding on the A&P circuit, in both flat classes and round-the-ring, but his passion has always been show jumping. David is currently competing at Pro-Am (1.20m – 1.30m) level.  David is excellent at installing confidence in both Horse and Rider. 

 

Kirsten Hence

Kirsten is a sucessful show jumping and show hunter rider based in Karaka, Auckland.  in 2018 Kirsten traveled to Mexico and was suceessful at the Global Amatuer Tour.  She had many amateur rider show jumping wins and placings to her name on horses she has produced herself.  Kirsten is also a show hunter specialist.  Kirsten teaches a proven system which gives you and your horse the best opportunity to jump a stylish showjumping or show hunter round.
